A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MS. DEBRA MATTHEWS FOR BEING SELECTED AS INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR AT THE JACKSON COUNTY CAMPUS OF THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

WHEREAS, Ms. Debra Matthews, a resident of Vancleave, Mississippi, has been selected as Instructor of the Year at the Jackson County Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in recognition of her distinguished service to the college; and

WHEREAS, the award was established by the Alumni Association of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to honor instructors at the college, and the recipient of the award is chosen from nominations submitted by students, faculty and administrators, on the basis of her teaching excellence, college service, community service and professional development; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Matthews, an electrical technology instructor, has been employed at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College for the past 12 years; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Matthews earned an associate's degree from the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and a bachelor's degree from the University of Southern Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, as an active member of her community, Ms. Matthews serves as campus coordinator for the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, provides counseling and mentorship to women with substance abuse problems with Haven and is a member of the Mississippi Association of Vocational Educators; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend such outstanding teachers as Ms. Debra Matthews, who has dedicated her career to teaching the young people of this state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Debra Matthews for being selected as Instructor of the Year at the Jackson County Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and extend to her our heartiest wishes of success in all her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Debra Matthews and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
